Why High-Performance Leaders Need More Than Coffee
Aug 22, 2025We all do it. That extra coffee, the energy drink, the third meeting in a row—you’re running on fumes and thinking you’ll just power through. Here’s the thing: you’re not running a machine. You’re human.
Try This Instead:
- Intentional Grounding: Feel your feet beneath you. Even better if you can actually put your bare feet in the grass (yes, literally go outside and touch grass). Root down into the ground and feel your weight grounded evenly into the earth beneath you. Stand tall, taking a few moments to roll your shoulders up to your ears, then softening them down your back. Feel the grounded presence you create by standing tall, evenly, and in your power.
- Breathwork: Smooth inhales through your nose, smooth steady exhales through your mouth. Even 3 minutes of intentional breathing can reset focus.
- Intentional Pauses: Tiny pockets of stillness that protect your mental bandwidth. No emails, no phone calls, no texts, and no podcasts. Take time to actually process any information you received throughout the day so you aren't up at night replaying conversations in your head. This can be a quiet lunch to yourself, a 10-minute block on your calendar every hour, or a drive between meetings in silence. Learn to sit with stillness, so you can begin to enjoy the silence.
When you manage your energy instead of masking it, your “peak performance” actually lasts longer than the caffeine buzz.
